2013

Jeez, where do I start?

This year, I turned 25. Some people my age have been going through what’s being called a “quarter-life crisis.” My experience could not be further from the case.

Many things went right for me this year. “JL8” continued to attract new readers and fans (72,000+ “Likes” on Facebook, are you KIDDING??). I was able to travel the country and meet amazing people, both fans of MYSELF and people who I am a fan OF. I was even invited outside the country to attend a convention in Barbados, which was an unbelievable experience. I was offered more professional work than I’ve ever anticipated, and was able to work on properties that any person would be honored to be a part of (many of which will finally be revealed this year). I saw my name on the cover to a Marvel comic. I don’t know if it gets much better than that.

Obviously, there were rough patches. March may’ve been the hardest month I’ve ever endured, losing both my remaining grandparents within a week of each other. Throughout the year, the schedule on “JL8” took multiple serious hits. My ability to produce commissions ground virtually to a halt. By no means was this year perfect.

But all that being said, I have you guys to thank. It’s you who have helped grow “JL8.” It’s you who’ve helped put my name out there and gotten me these wonderful opportunities. You were there to support me when things went south. You were there to help right the ship when I put the pieces back together. You stepped up for each other when it was needed, donating money to wonderful causes like the victims of the Boston bombings and the Super Typhoon.

I’m just a guy, drawing comics, trying to make it work. Making it work requires an audience. Without you guys, my year would’ve been pretty ordinary. Thank you so much for making it extraordinary.

Have a safe and happy New Year.

See you in 2014.
