Rainfall Warning

Issued at 3:21 PM EST Thursday 20 February 2014 from (http://www.theweathernetwork.com/alerts/high-alert/canada/ontario/little-portugal)

Major storm bringing 20 to 40 mm of rain tonight and Friday.
An Alberta clipper and Texas low are merging and will intensify as the low centre heads towards Lake Superior. This storm system will bring rising temperatures to Southern Ontario along with significant precipitation and strong winds.
Rain and wet snow continues over Southwestern Ontario and is spreading to the Golden Horseshoe late this afternoon. Precipitation will begin near the Kingston area early this evening and is forecast to reach the Ottawa Valley Friday morning. It is likely that precipitation will begin as a brief period of wet snow, freezing rain or ice pellets then change to rain as temperatures rise from near the freezing mark. The exception is near the Ottawa Valley where a freezing rain warning is in effect as several hours of freezing rain are forecast.
Total rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are expected over the warned areas, with the highest amounts forecast to be in the corridor from Eastern Lake Erie to the north shore of Lake Ontario. In addition, thunderstorms will be possible over Southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe, and may result in locally higher rainfall amounts. Significant snow melt due to the rising temperatures will also be a concern.
As the rain comes to an end from west to east Friday, winds will increase out of the southwest with gusts to 70 or 80 km/h likely, particularly along the great lake shores.
