fiona’s first birthday

Our babiest baby is one. It’s been an eventful year, but the singular joy of it has been watching our littlest sweetheart grow, and having our house packed to the gills with the happy chaos of not one, not two, but three baby monkeys constantly up to shenanigans. Fiona keeps up with the best of them, and thinks her bigs are the absolute bee’s knees–they could be putting their feet on her head or using her as an oversized dress-up doll and she’d find it all absolutely hysterical.

For her part, Fiona is so much her own person. If Luke was a little ham at this age and Clara sweet and sassy, Fiona is a tiny ball of decided opinions. When she is happy, she’s the happiest, when she’s feeling industrious, she can spend an hour rummaging in the kids’ toy bins like a thrifter looking for a good deal, and when she is grumpy–which isn’t often–she is the grumpiest. When she finds something she likes to eat, she’ll eat her weight in it, and if she doesn’t like it, she’d rather casually starve. (She had her first bindaetteok last week and loved it like she’s been eating spicy food her whole life.) I think it’s only a matter of time before she’s bossing us all around, and chances are we will probably let her.

This year we kept her dol small and had only B2’s parents here to celebrate, but it’s been the most wonderful to have them with staying us for a little while, and the kids, who adore Grandma and Grandpa, have just relished it. We did learn our lesson from the first two doljabis and did not put out anything ball-like this time around. Lo, Fiona picked the pencil and (as with all things) with resolve, so looks like we’re going to have two athletes and a writer. One of these things seems more likely than the others.

Here are just a few more photos of our wee party. Having a full house brimming with baby laughter has been a dream of ours, and–while I’d like to have a few words with those folks who said that going from two to three was easier than one to two–this first year of our family of five has been an absolute treasure. We love you so much, baby oxlet.
