Weekend Links

by Aimee

In case you were wondering, today is Saturday.

We’ve got a slow weekend at home ahead, puttering in the yard and cooking more comfort food.

I hope you’re able to sit with a second cup of coffee and do a little reading.

I’ve rounded up some of my favourite articles and recipes from the web that I’ve collected over the past few weeks. Don’t worry, it’s not all pandemic related!

Read on for those picks and don’t miss my tips for a date night in at the end of the post.

What I’ve Learned About Kids in the Kitchen ~ The Art of Simple || My guest post over on the blog formerly known as Simple Mom.

10 Canadians You Need to Follow on Social Media During the Pandemic (And Beyond) ~ Reader’s Digest Canada || So honoured to be included!

“Whether they’re serving up humour or hope, these Canadians are making social media a brighter place when we need it the most.”

Food Safety and Coronavirus: A Comprehensive Guide ~ Serious Eats || In case you were wondering…

Check out that gorgeous fan art above! Dannica from @DoodleforthePlanet recreated my regrown vegetable scraps.

Vegan Spelt Banana Bread with Pecans and Chocolate Chunks ~ The First Mess || Banana bread for when you run out of eggs.

Lockdown Cooking: 7 Humble Dishes from Staples ~ Zero Waste Chef || My kind of comfort food.

10 Orzo Recipes That Are Really Here for You Right Now ~ Kitchn || My kids love orzo so much; now I can round out my repertoire.

Making the most of sour cream : Eat North ~ Who knew there were so many ways to cook and bake with sour cream? You may want to add this staple to your grocery list.

Friendly reminder to date your partner once in a while even though we’re sheltering in place together. For us, it means feeding our three kids early, then letting them max out on screen time while we connect over drinks & nibbles.

Other days, we banish them outside around 5pm as we unwind with a Montreal inspired ‘cinq à sept’ (happy hour). Whatever it takes, right? Add music, candles….a clean shirt… you do you!

Seriously though, I miss restaurants SO much – and it actually helps a bit to fake a date night in at home. How are you coping with the whole lockdown or quarantine life 24/7?
PS. Drinks here are just a classic gin & tonic with lime, but lately I’ve been dropping in a few frozen blackberries. Pretty and delicious. Follow me on Instagram for more inspiration.

Happy Weekend, friends.
