Weekend links and photos

Yesterday was the last big push to get the garden planted, and my sore back this morning is a reminder of work well done.
The rain held off until the last seedling was tucked into the raised bed and then it fell gently, as if to bless our efforts. I’ll share a few garden photos soon, even though it’s just starting to come alive.
This week, I started reading The Secret Garden aloud to the boys before bed. I haven’t read this classic in probably twenty years and I found myself drawn in to Mary’s story all over again. There are so many characters to love: Dickon. Ben Weatherstaff. Susan Sowerby.
As spring comes to our homestead, we’ll be reading about changes at Misselthwaite Manor and how the robin showed the way to the secret garden. It seems apropos.

We’ll be fitting in a picnic today or tomorrow, because this is my favourite season to lay a spread out on a quilt in the forest or field. Above is a picnic from my cookbook, captured on camera before we dug in. All those recipes are in Brown Eggs and Jam Jars and are ideal spring picnic fare.
Here’s what I’m loving around the web this week:
- Elizabeth over at Brooklyn Supper has started a spring produce guide that is as helpful as it is beautiful.
- If you’re grilling this weekend, you may want to consider Fajita Chicken Kebabs made by Erin of Well Plated.
- Joy’s easy Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream needs to happen in my ice cream churn and I think it’s gonna.
- My rhubarb is read to harvest and this Roasted Rhubarb Bakewell Tart from Vikalinka is at the top of my baking list.
- I must admit, I’ve been thinking about Amy’s BLT Macaroni Salad since I saw it on Pinterest.
- This Roasted Cauliflower and Sausage Pasta from The Candid Appetite could be a good back-up if your grilling plans get rained out.
- Definitely check out the new website Cool Mom Eats this weekend! My good friend Stacie is the editor and she’s been working so hard to get things up and running.
Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!
