Weekend links and photos

It seemed as though we waited for spring for forever, and then it came and went in a blink.
The days are much hotter now and we cool off with chilled watermelon, cold brew tea, and gardening under the lawn sprinkler. I’m logging long hours in my kitchen, working on both blog and book, not to mention a few side projects like hosting a wedding. Posts will continue to be a little less frequent over the summer, but there is some good stuff coming up, like our absolute favourite mid-summer fruit sorbet.
Here’s what I’ve been reading and loving around the web recently:
- Easiest Spinach and Ricotta Pappardelle :: My recipe for Cool Mom Eats
- Coconut Cream Baked Oatmeal :: My recipe on Weelicious
- Grilled Sweet Potatoes with Cilantro Vinaigrette :: Cookin’ Canuck
- A Visit to the Le Creuset Factory :: David Lebovitz
- Bittersweet Chocolate Cherry Crumble :: Kitchen Heals Soul
- Repurposed Mud Kitchen (for kids) :: This Pilgrim Life
- Canadian cookbooks to try this summer :: Canadian Living
Hit the jump for news of my next reader event (West Coast!) and plenty of images from the homestead.
{new} Victoria, BC double cookbook author event!
We’re traveling as a family to the West Coast of Canada later this month and I couldn’t pass up the chance to meet Simple Bites readers in the area. Although we’ll be traveling all over Vancouver Island and the Discovery Islands, the city of Victoria makes the most sense for a gathering.
On Wednesday, July 29 at 5PM we’re going to meet-up at the Beacon Hill Park Watering Can (it’s Douglas St at Circle Drive) in Victoria. Bring a picnic and stay for supper or just drop by and say hi on your way home from work. If you have kids, bring their swim suits and they can join my 3 children splashing under the watering can.
My friend, Victoria-local, and fellow Penguin Canada author, Amy Bronee will be there as well, so come say hello to us both! Feel free to bring your copy of Brown Eggs and Jam Jars and Amy’s book, The Canning Kitchen
, and we can personalize them for you.
In case of rain…stay tuned for a Plan B. There’s a market nearby where we can probably gather. See you in Victoria in a few weeks!
Favourite June/July images
June brought garden produce that just won’t stop! It’s been a fantastic spring for eggs, too.
We’re grilling baby zucchini, garlic scapes, and everything else we can get our hands on.
Don’t miss out on this delicious take on avocado toast and make it while strawberries are in season.
Speaking of berry season…..it’s tiiiiiiime!
A girl and her peas. And a thriving July backyard garden.
We may have a weed-pulling party right after this, but we sit down as a family for dinner every single night. These days, we’re outside for all of those meals.
Along with a few terrific food writers and bloggers, I visited the Great Canadian Prairies to visit a lentil farm this week. I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
Have a fantastic weekend, all!
