Weekend links and photos

by Aimee

Happy Sunday, all, and Happy Thanksgiving weekend to my Canadian readers. I wouldn’t be lying if I said I had pie for breakfast…

We have giveaway winners! Congratulations to our grand prize winner, Rebekah, and two runner up winners, Adrienne and Shannon. Ladies, check your inboxes for a email from me this morning.

A big thank you to all who entered the giveaway. Be sure to check out The Homemade Kitchen on Amazon where it is currently discounted.

Here’s what I’ve been loving around the web this week:

Hit the jump for a few of my favourite fall photos from the homestead and beyond…

Fall Photos

Apple butter

‘Tis the season for simmering maple-sweetened apple butter for hours in the slow cooker. The kids chop and core the apples, I stew everything down, and we freeze (or can) it in jars for our toast all winter long.

fall breakfast

Fall breakfast can mean maple-roasted pears topped with granola. And broiled grapefruit.

Tremblant

We got out and up to the Laurentians to hike on a recent weekend. Good for the mind, body and soul.

Grap jelly jars with 'dyed' purple jelly cloth

Here’s your homesteading tip of the day: don’t toss that purple-stained cheese or jelly cloth you used for Concord grape preserves. Instead, rinse and dry it, then cut it into squares to decorate your lovely jars. Right? Right.

Quebec lake

Recently I snatched a few minutes to myself on the shore of this secluded mountain lake. I could have stayed all day.

bundt

Noah celebrated a birthday not long ago. He requested the usual: Chocolate Beet Bundt Cake.

tomatoes

The last batch of San Marzanos, headed for sauce.

chowder

There’s still corn at the markets. Time for one last batch of Harvest Corn Chowder.

swap jars

My annual jam swap happened last weekend. It was a colourful haul this year; I’m set for winter!

What’s cooking this weekend?
