Get a free workout at GoodLife on National Health and Fitness Day
It’s no secret that Canadians have a health issue: Our sedentary lifestyle often leads to obesity and a host of problems, such as heart disease, diabetes and strokes, grouped under the term “sitting disease.”
To help combat these challenges, GoodLife and ParticipACTION are partnering to offer an Open House Day on June 6, Canada’s inaugural National Health and Fitness Day. At 350 GoodLife locations across Canada, access to the gym will be free.
In addition to getting a free workout, you can also learn about the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines and soak up some fitness advice, especially if you’re a beginner. “This is a great opportunity for all Canadians who have been thinking about getting healthier and more active to take the first step toward moving more,” says Hayley Wickenheiser, an Olympic hockey player and member of ParticipACTION’s board of directors.
Sometimes all it takes is one small change to transform your life for better health. If you spend 30 minutes working your muscles at the gym today, you might feel so good that, tomorrow, you may decide to ride your bike to work instead of driving. You might even feel inspired to swap a fast-food lunch for a veggie-filled salad.
Or if you aren’t into the gym, go for a walk. It’s a great time of year to begin a walking routine. Keep yourself challenged and motivated by gradually working your way to walking 10,000 steps a day.
Remember, getting healthy happens one small change at a time. Trying a new (free) workout routine is just one great way to get the ball rolling.
